Why Donate

Your donation will help Saskatchewan’s only psychiatric rehabilitation hospital transform lives and enhance quality of life for the most vulnerable of people.

We are raising $8 Million to purchase the furnishings and equipment to provide a home-like atmosphere and quality care to those who come to us for help – beds and nightstands, educational and recreational equipment, tables and chairs, a medical centre and a dental office – items and services that most of us take for granted and have access to.

Each year an average of 180 people are admitted to SHNB. The average age is 34, and they come from all walks of life and all corners of our province. They are our family, our friends and our co-workers.

Most people stay here between 12 and 18 months
       … this is their home.

Your gift will help us build awareness
and end the stigma of mental illness.

  • Mental illnesses are non-discriminatory – they strike men, women and children regardless of race, education or income level.
  • Mental illnesses affect 1 in 5 Canadians and one of those people is someone we care about; we are all affected.
  • Almost one in four deaths among 15-24 year olds is suicide and suicide is one of the leading causes of death in both men and women from adolescence to middle-age.

The good news is that all mental illness is treatable.

Celeste"It was with desperation and helplessness that we walked through those doors it was very scary and sad. The stigma back in the 70s was a hundred times worse than it is now. The atmosphere was so dismal, dreary and in need of repair. There was absolutely no place for privacy. Leaving him there was the worst! It felt like we were abandoning him"

~ Celeste, speaking about her brother Dennis

“I am looking forward to getting my very own room.”

    ~ Bernadette

“We do things differently here. We provide treatment to the most vulnerable people in the province, who are resistant to treatment.  They need the place and time to heal and invest in their future. We can provide that. Mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, sisters, brothers look to us as their last hope in getting their family member healthy and back home. They want to find the person they know and love but have lost to a debilitating illness that no one else has been able to help them with.”
